Syracuse University and Boston Shamrocks Alumna Heather Schwarz Scores First Pro Goal During First Period of the NWHL Boston Pride's Home Opener

Boston Shamrocks Alumna Heather Schwarz scored her first professional goal at the Warrior Ice Arena on Saturday night at 2:58 of the first period. Schwarz shot a laser from the blue line past the Connecticut Whale's netminder to give the Boston Pride an early 1-0 lead in their home opener.

Calling it “a dream come true,” recently-graduated Syracuse University forward Schwarz stated about playing with the Boston Pride of the NWHL. Prior to playing at Syracuse, the 5-9 forward was captain and MVP of the Boston Shamrocks.  As a member of the Shamrocks Schwarz scored 16 goals and handed out 10 assists in 2012-13 for a total of 26 points and was named to the the JWHL South All-Star Squad.

“Not only do I get to continue playing hockey as a professional, but being in a city like Boston is very exciting,” said Schwarz. “I've played with and against some of the women on the Pride throughout my hockey career. I'm proud to be part of their team. I'm excited for the opportunity to play in Boston again and to have my parents and loved ones watch me play professional hockey. Signing with the Pride is a dream come true.”

Schwarz played 141 games between 2013-2017 for the Orange and had 22 goals and 29 assists for 51 points, which ranks her seventh in program history. As a senior this past season, Schwarz was 11-10-21 in 33 games.  "Heather worked extremely hard both on and off the ice, and her game improved each and every year during her tenure here,” said Syracuse head coach Paul Flanagan. “We wish her the best as she moves on to the NWHL."  “Playing at Syracuse was an extraordinary experience,"  Said Schwarz.  "Paul and [assistant coaches] Ali Domenico and Brendon Knight developed us as a team and as individuals to become successful on and off the ice.”

Schwarz majored in Health and Exercise Science at Syracuse, and now works as a certified personal trainer at Republic Fitness in Boston's Financial District.
