Ashlee Hirschfield Scored Winning Goal In Shamrocks Thrilling 3-2 Overtime Win Over Chicago Young Americans

By James Murphy

The Boston Shamrocks started the 2017-18 regular season in Buffalo winning two of the three games they played at the Rinks At Harbor Center over this past weekend.  "I Thought our girls had a pretty successful weekend in Buffalo," Director Of Hockey Operations and head coach Sean Fisher said. "We went two for three and  beat the 1st place team. We then beat Balmoral Hall with two veteran defenseman out with injuries. We had a sleepy start against a deep Pacific team and that put us in a hole that we couldn't climb out of. But this weekend was a win for our team. There's lots to improve on still, but I had a college coach tell me 'your girls are the most improved team since Beantown in July of any U19 team out there'. So that is a very good sign."

Boston kicked things off with a thrilling 3-2 overtime win over the Chicago Young Americans as Ashlee Hirschfield netted the winner in the extra frame. The Shamrocks then beat Balmoral Hall 3-2 in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday with Keyara Lea scoring the game-tying and game-winning goals before falling to Pacific 4-0.  Fisher noted the versatile play of Madison Nichols, who due to injuries had to take on more responsibility on the ice to help her team.  "I was impressed with the play of Madison Nichols who I asked to play a lot of different roles this weekend with the injuries we had and she did a great job," he said. "Every college coach here took notice of her play."

Fisher was also thrilled to have Jordan Hampton on the bench running the blue line for the Shamrocks.  "Jordan Hampton made her debut behind the bench for us this weekend and I thought her bench management of the D was quite good," he said of Hampton.

Overall, Fisher saw plenty of positive signs and is impressed with the progress the team is making.  "We made good strides this weekend and need to continue moving forward as a group - building our culture and improving each day," he said.
