Come From Behind Win For Shamrocks In JWHL Challenge Cup Opener

Early Friday morning the Shamrocks opened the 9th annual JWHL Challenge Cup with a come from behind win over the HoneyBaked Hockey team of Detroit, Michigan at the Kettler Capitals Iceplex in Arlington, Virginia.

HoneyBaked scored the lone goal of the first period and again early in the second period to go up 2-0. Amanda Conway scored halfway through the second period to cut HoneyBaked's lead in half at 2-1. Before the period ended the Shamrocks tied the game at 2-2 on a goal by Kathleen McHugh.

The game remained tied into the third period. In the third period McHugh got one behind the HoneyBaked's goalie to cap off the Shamrocks comeback. Ali Peper and Nicole Lorenzo were both credited with assits for the Shamrocks. Shamrocks goalie Kia Castonguay made 21 saves to earn the 3-2 win.

Next up for the Shamrocks is a 9:00 am Saturday morning game at the Iceplex against the St. Francis Xavier Rams from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
