Wilmington, MA -- The Boston Shamrocks have built some positive
momentum heading into the final stretch before the holidays.
Two consecutive league weekends held in Providence, RI and
in Boston, MA saw the Shamrocks improve on both their total
goals against as well as goals scored over the course of each
weekend. With Brown University serving as the host school
for the Providence weekend, Boston faced off against the Washington
Pride, currently seated in third place in the East Division
and tied for third place overall in the league. The Shamrocks
raced out to a quick lead, with a goal by Vanessa Maines (Boxborough,
MA) assisted by Kathryn Tomaselli (Cranston, RI) and Sarahanne
Cavolo (Roxbury, NH) two minutes into the game. Drake Hicks
(Happy Valley, HK) added to the Shamrocks lead with an unassisted
goal off of a snap shot from the slot. The second period saw
the ice tilted in Washington’s favor, as they peppered
Shamrocks goalie Moe Bradley (Swampscott, MA) with shots,
eventually sneaking one by to cut the Shamrocks lead to one.
Boston regrouped after the second period, and came out skating
hard in the third, withstanding a flurry of shots at the end
to earn a 2-1 victory over the Pride.
Just four days after the conclusion of the league weekend
in Providence the Shamrocks kicked off the JWHL East-West
weekend in Boston with a game against Balmoral Hall. The Shamrocks
dropped a close 2-0 game to the Blazers, but gained confidence
over the several offensive chances they were able to generate.
The highlight of the weekend came Friday morning when the
Shamrocks faced off against the Pacific Steelers. Boston jumped
out to a quick 2-0 lead with goals by Sarahanne Cavolo (Roxbury,
MA) and Larri-Lee Skidders (Akwesasne, NY). The Steelers came
back firing, and scored four unanswered goals to take a 4-2
lead halfway through the second period. After regrouping,
Boston cut the two goal deficit with goals by Mary Parker
(Acton, MA) and Vanessa Maines (Boxborough, MA). The third
period was the Shamrocks best period yet, as Sarahanne Cavolo
and Mary Parker both scored and the defense limited Pacific’s
chances to earn a 6-4 victory. Nia Kelly (Clayon, NC) was
strong in net for the Shamrocks, and Kelsey MacIsaac (one
assist) had a very solid weekend as well. Up front, the line
of Mary Parker, Vanessa Maines, and Sarahanne Cavolo led the
Shamrocks, combining for 13 points against Pacific.
After just over a week off from practice for the holidays,
the Boston Shamrocks will head to Connecticut to compete in
the Polar Bears Tournament beginning December 27th.
