Our goal is to create a competitive environment for our student-athletes
in order for each of them to reach their maximum potential. We stress
the importance of physical health and strength, but also work to become
mentally and emotionally stronger. Our program is challenging, but
the rewards are worth the effort.
The Boston Shamrocks compete against the best
competition, which will ultimately prepare our players for the level
of play that they will face in college. Each year the vast majority
of Division 1 players come from full season programs. This is a
result of not just a full season of games, but a full season of
multiple weekly practices and off-ice training and conditioning
that help accelerate development.
The Boston Shamrocks have a consistent schedule
of three 90 minute practices per week, with four on weeks when there
are no games the coming weekend. Along with the on ice practices,
the team also utilizes classroom and video sessions to ensure a
thorough understanding of positional and team tactics and the development
of the “complete player.”
Additionally, our players have access to ice at the team’s
home rink, Ristuccia Arena during the day, as well as the Puckstoppers
Goaltending synthetic ice facility in nearby North Andover. This
allows our players to work on specific skating, shooting, stick
handling, and goaltending techniques, or affords them time to be
creative, or just have some extra fun.
However,
advanced development requires more than ice time. In addition to
off-ice training, the team has one hour strength and conditioning
sessions with Mike Boyle Strength & Conditioning after practice,
twice a week. Mike Boyle is one of the premier S&C coaches in
North America and has tailored a program specific to the needs of
female hockey players. He is no stranger to the sport’s requirements,
having been the long time S&C coach for Boston University, as
well as formerly for the Boston Bruins, and the gold medal winning
1998 US Women’s Olympic hockey team.
All
home games and practices are held at Ristuccia Arena, the NHL Boston
Bruins’ Practice and Training facility in Wilmington, Massachusetts.
The Shamrocks have their own dedicated locker room, with individual
stalls for each player. The arena features study areas, a players
lounge with big screed plasma tv, as well as a full service pro
shop, with state of the art skate sharpening and profiling equipment.
The Boston Shamrocks provide home and away jerseys and socks, helmet,
as well as gloves, shells, bags, warm-up suits, and a selection
of team attire. Transportation to away games is via the team’s
coach bus! Lodging and two meals on away trips are also provided
by the team.
